 Haslemere Library Chatterbooks

As part of National Libraries Week, Haslemere Library relaunched its Chatterbooks Reading group.

During October we read "Song of the Dolphin Boy" by Elizabeth Laird and " The No.1 Car Spotter Fights the Factory" by Atinuke.  Both books raised environmental concerns.

The first title drew our attention to the problem of plastic waste on our beaches and in our oceans.  We discussed how we could help to reduce waste.  Not dropping litter or volunteering to help clean beaches were two ideas.

In the second title we learnt how misuse of pesticides can contaminate soil and water which can be toxic for birds, fish and other animals.  This title also gave us a valuable insight into life in Africa.

During March we read poems from "101 Poems for Children" by Carol Ann Duffy and "I am a Poetato" by John Hegley.  We also made bookmarks for Mother's Day and Easter.
